Bringing Cream & Amber to Life
Looking back at our blog today, I realized that we have not blogged since June - it is crazy how fast this summer has been going! Now that we have gotten our building permit from the city, our decision-making and design work has been kicked into high gear. There are so many details to discuss at this stage, and it's really exciting to see the space take shape.
Some of our many discussion topics over the past couple weeks have been the fire alarm system, bar materials, stain color, flooring colors/materials, bathroom doors, equipment placement, food storage area requirements, bookshelf construction, and lighting. Whew! What a way to kick off August!
We continue to learn so much throughout this process. For two people who have not dealt much with construction and remodeling, it has been eye-opening to see the amount of detail and coordination required to make a project happen. It has been a great learning opportunity and when we encounter something we're not sure how to handle, we talk it out together, do some research, ask questions, and then make a decision on how to move forward.
If you've walked by Cream & Amber lately, you may have noticed that we put some paper up in the front windows - we want to keep a bit of mystery about the transformation that is happening! That being said, I want to highlight a couple spots in the store, so that you can imagine what's going on behind those windows and get a sneak peek of what Cream & Amber will look like.
First, there will be a pair of super comfy armchairs right behind that large front window. Imagine the sun streaming through the window in the afternoon, where you sit reading the latest novel from your favorite author. Beer in hand, you can take a sip, turn the page, and repeat. And speaking of sunlight, the back of our space has two amazing skylights! You can set up your laptop at one of our tables to write or find a new book from our shelves and hang out for a few hours while the sun shines in above you.
The two most important fixtures going into the space are of course the bookshelves and the bar. Our shelves will begin on the front wall (you'll see them right when you enter) and continue down the right side of the space all the way into the back. We'll also have a display table in the front to feature new and noteworthy books. On the left side of the space, you'll see our register area and bar, which will have seating for 10. You can pull up a stool and chat with us all day about books, beer, your most recent break up, your cat's new pajamas, your favorite superhero, etc. etc. (We'll do our best to be experts on the first two topics but no promises on the rest).
We've got more decision-making and design fun on deck for the rest of the month. We'll be sure to keep you updated and let you know once we have a tentative opening date!
